Engineering Outreach Day

A group of SJCI students attended the University of Manitoba faculty of 
Engineering Outreach Day on October 18th.  

On these days, students go to the U of M to learn about the Faculty and the engineering profession. 

The day began with with a presentation about engineering courses, departments, technical societies and career opportunities. 

Students were then given a tour of various engineering labs throughout the engineering building. 

During lunch, the Dean of Engineering addressed the students and provided further information about the faculty and life as a professional engineer.

 After lunch, students participated in an egg drop challenge meant to demonstrate the challenges engineers face daily.

Grad clothing is now available to order ONLINE ONLY (

Mom's Pantry Products are also being sold as an individual fundraiser for all grads.

Parent Support Group

Have you ever struggled with managing your child’s behavior or needs?

Do wish you could talk to someone who understands, and who might be dealing with similar issues?

Have you ever wished you had a larger support network in your life?

If so, please join the Parent Support Group for parents with children age 12-18 in the St. James area. It will be hosted by Hayley Plesh, social worker in our school division, on the first Wednesday of every month from 6-7:30. 

It will take place at 1 Braintree Crescent. 
There will be a pizza supper served, followed by an hour long support session.

It starts Wednesday, November 2.

University of Manitoba - Evening of Excellence October 25th

The University of Manitoba will be hosting our annual Evening of Excellence on Tuesday, October 25, 2016.  Students should RSVP their attendance using the registration link on the website,

Parents and guests are also welcome!

When:  Tuesday, October 25th
Time:  6:00pm – 9:00pm
Where:  2nd Floor, University Centre – University of Manitoba, Fort Garry Campus

Evening of Excellence features an academic fair where students and parents can meet one-on-one with representatives from our academic programs and support units.  We will also have presentations focused on scholarships and awards and planning for university.  Campus mini-tours and residence tours will also be offered.

Students can also enter our draw to win one of two $1,000 tuition prizes to put towards their 2017-18 University of Manitoba tuition fees.

Free parking is available for guests in the Q student parking lot.

Food Drive For Winnipeg Harvest

The SJCI Youth in Philanthropy Student Group is collecting non-perishable items for Winnipeg Harvest until October 31st!

Take Your Child to Work Day - Nov. 2, 2016

Take Our Kids To Work Day is Wednesday, November 2, 2016.  This day gives parents an opportunity to help prepare their children for the future, by inviting them to join either themselves, a relative, or family friend at work for a day.  Over 250,000 grade 9 students in Canada participate every year in this very important day of career exploration!

Permission forms will go home on Tuesday, October 18th with extra copies available for pick up at the main office.  Please return completed forms to either the student's grade 9 English teacher, the main office, or Mrs. Brophy, Guidance Counsellor by Monday, October 24th.

2016 Undergraduate Awards Photos
