Parent Survey

Dear Parents:

The objective of our school is to provide the best possible education for our students. With this in mind, we are asking parents to provide us with their ideas and constructive suggestions by completing this survey. Please feel free to discuss these questions with your child while completing the survey. We assure you that your comments will be carefully considered in the development of our school plans. Your continuing assistance and cooperation are major strengths in our school system and are very much appreciated.

As you complete the 11 sections of the survey, you can monitor your progress through the survey at the top of each section using the progress bar as a guide. The survey consists of 88 multiple choice questions in total along with 2 comment sections. Any questions marked with an asterisk * require a response.

I thank you in advance for taking the time to provide your valued feedback to the school and Division.

Sincerely,

Mr. K. Dueck
Principal: St. James Collegiate

Students Reflect on "Magnificent" and "Terrifying" Trip

Over spring break 2014, 16 students from College Sturgeon Heights Collegiate and 30 students from St. James Collegiate participated in a tour of Eastern Europe...here are words from of a few of students involved:

"As a part of the St. James Collegiate Human Rights and Holocaust Education program, we had the opportunity to visit a few of the sites that we had spent the previous four years learning about. We were lucky enough to visited J├╝disches Museum Berlin, remnants of the Warsaw ghetto, the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, and the largest Jewish heritage museum in Europe located in Prague, Czech Republic, and what we observed was both magnificent and terrifying. The knowledge we gained from these experiences will stay with us forever and will motivate us to stand up against injustice of any form." (Cam P., Noah C. & Kellie S. - St. James Collegiate)

Students also had the opportunity to spend time in a number of Old Town squares, visit the Wieliczka Salt Mines, cruise on the Vlatva River in Prague and enjoy a variety of ethnic foods from the countries visited. It truly was amazing and as noted above, "...these experiences will stay with us forever..."

Coaching For Confidence

Presented by: Dr. Maria Phelps, School Psychologist, Educational Support Services, St. James-Assiniboia School Division

Shyness and anxiety are normal human emotions.  Some children, however, are much more shy or fearful than the average child.  For these children, anxiety may interfere with their enjoyment of school, activities with other children, new experiences (swimming lessons, birthday parties, etc.), and their development of independence and confidence. In this session, parents will learn about anxiety in children aged four to seven and gain useful tools to help your children overcome this problem.

Workshops will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. at Educational Support Services – Jameswood School, 1 Braintree Crescent (off Olive & Ness).  Free pizza supper will be offered from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. and session will take place from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.  To register please call Arlie Williams-Taylor at 885-9555 or email ptregistrations@sjsd.net

FREE CHILDCARE IS PROVIDED FOR SESSIONS.  When registering please indicate for how many children and their ages.  Once registered, if you cannot attend, please be sure to cancel by contacting Arlie Williams-Taylor at 885-9555 or email at ptregistrations@sjsd.net
