Mole Day

SJC World Cafe

The World Cafe is a place where international students and new Canadians can practice their English and make friends at lunch.

The World  Cafe rocked today with the newspaper dance. As the newspaper pieces got smaller, students'

problem solving skills were put to the test to somehow be standing on a piece of newspaper when the music stopped! Canadian ambassadors and our international friends had a great time.

The World Cafe is open every second Wednesday!

Mental Health Education at SJC

As part of our Physical Education and Health curriculum we have a unique opportunity to present the MILE 5 program to grade 9 and grade 11 students.  Presented by Tessa Blaikie, Youth Mental Health Promotion Worker from the Canadian Mental Health Association, the MILE 5 program seeks to promote mental health literacy and decrease stigmatizing attitudes in young people. In so doing this program helps youth feel comfortable to reach out, and seeks to change the social stigma around mental illness so that youth who do reach out do so within supportive, empathetic and educated communities. It involves videos, activities and speakers talking about and taking questions on their lived experience of mental illness in their youth and their journey of recovery.  Tessa will be presenting at St. James Collegiate until Oct 22.

There are 3 training sessions planned for this week: Tuesday, Oct. 8 period 1Wednesday, Oct. 9 after school, and Thursday, Oct. 10 at lunch. If you have your plan & permission slip handed in, you are welcome to attend one of these sessions. If none of these times work for you, please see Mr. Robson to set up an appointment.
